getting a fish list together

Hi,

I just set up a 90 gallon FOWLR with about 60lbs of cured live rock that has been cycling for about 2 weeks now. I am in the process of planning what fish i want to stock it with. Here is what i am planning.

1 x Pinktail Trigger or Niger Trigger or a Cross Hatch Trigger (still deciding which one)
1 x Snowflake or Golden Tail eel
1 x Kole Tang
1 x Hawain Blue Puffer

For filtration i have a Coralife Super Skimmer 125 and a power filter. I do have some snails for a cleanup crew and a few peppermint shrimps that were for the aptassia problem that was on a few of the rocks, i know that these shrimp and snails will be gone once i start stocking.

How does this look? Any info or suggestions would be great.

Thank you

Well if you want a trigger the first two are good choices-theyre somewhat cheap and easy to come by, however, the crosshatch is very expensive and Ive only seen one in all my years of fishkeeping. Also I would think a 90 would be too small for a crosshatch, they typically ship at around 8" and up.

As for the eels.......im sorry but I think snowflake eels are SO boring, you see them EVERYWHERE and they just seem so common place. I have 3 and if you lived by me they would be yours! I inherited them from a friend and now I wish I wouldnt have. One has taken out a bunch of fish and Im not too happy about it. Why not wait a little and see if u can find yourself a more rare eel. Theyre expensive, but if youre looking for a very beautiful eel try and get a golden or a dwarf.

Im not too big on kole tangs, so I'll leave that alone, I would probably rather go with a purple.

And the hawaiin blue dot arent my favorite either. The canthigaster species are known for fin nippng, and in my opinion arent nearly as cool as the arothron puffers or porcupie puffers. YOu could get away with a smaller dogface, stars& stripes, porcupine, etc. And they have WAY more personality than the tobies.

Thanks for the info.

I have been kinda reluctant about getting a snowflake as they are very common, i would really like to get a zebra, golden tail or a ghost eel.

Thanks again

Snowflake eels are the "yellow tang" of the eel world....more bread and butter even if that is possible.

There are many more attractive options out there for not a ton more cash. You can even pick up a Green Wolf Eel (which is actually a pseudochromid) and have something that doesn't try to eat your hand when its in the tank. They also don't get huge (2 feed or so tops) and are a bit kinder to tankmates.

I'll second chopz on the crosshatch in a 90 being borderline.... If you are going to do a fish of that $$$ why not go to a tank that will be more appropriate? Or do the pinktail (75%+ the looks of a crosshatch for a fraction of the price) A blue line is also an option.

If you get a larger eel there is a possibility he may want to eat the blue dot puffer. A dogface is a safer option and they don't get bigger than a 10-12" and take years to get there.
