Getting a tank drilled

After much thought, and a minor flood of a freshwater tank in a second floor apartment, I've decided to get my tank drilled instead of using the HOB overflow that came with it. I'm thinking of taking it to one of the stores in town. I've been going to fishy bizness (to look at cool things) and he said he could drill it. Do I need to know where/how many holes I want before I take it there or will they help me decide?

Whichever is least likely to make a flood. Most concerned about something like the power going out. Its a 75g (standard 48 x 18) so space may be at a premium. I'd like to keep a mixed reef eventually. Not quite sure what the pros and cons are. I tried to look at the Herbie pictures but was getting a server error.

I really like the bean animal !!! I have one on my 26 gallon tank and its super quiet !!! And has an emergency drain to help prevent any overflows ..

Yes the emergency drain is a must have - so I'm assuming the durso is out. I looked up the Herbie style last night (had to paw through a really long post) and will look up the bean animal one today.

evo - You're a transplant like me! I just moved here from NorCal too. I've been living in Truckee for the last 6 years, lived in colorado before that. Although I was born in SoCal - but don't hold that against me!

I had a 125 drilled at F Biz a couple months back for a Bean Animal and couldn't be happier. The store and drain are great. If you need help on the design/dimensions I can probably still remember most of the concerns.

I run a single hole with a gate valve in my 190. Simple, easy to adjust, and quiet. LOVE IT! Just need to find an overflow box. I had mine custom made by a plastic shop here in town. I would NEVER use that shop again. There is a sign shop on Tucson Blvd just south of Broadway that can do it for around $100.

Bean Animal is 3 holes. There is a huge thread here on the design and Bean has his own (concise) website. If you have an extra couple months you can read through the thread.
Vizslas are almost as good as shorthairs :) Although I can't imagine having 2 bird dogs at one time - I'm not sure I have the energy for one!

I have a bean animal too and love it, very quiet and safe. I love bird dogs, I grew up with Brittney's.

2 vizslas and 1 weimaraner. This is Monster - the Weim.

I'm gonna call fishy bizness and see if they'll do the overflow too.

Wow - I love Weimaraner's / growing up my Dad use to train them. Great bird dogs !!! We used them for Dove Season all the time... I can remember growing up I use to pretend I was drowning and my dads dog Bud would come and pull me out of the river by my collar of my shirt ... They are super smart dogs !!!

Not to hijack or anything but does anyone know where I can get some glass cut? I just acquired a 12x12x13 tank and would like to get it drilled or an external overflow. Just like the OP I am deciding on a herbie, bean, or durso.

Do you stand by this company Jose? if not I am going to require some of your coral if they do a crappy job

LOL !!! Yes - they don nice work but to be honest Mateo when he worked at SEA ordered the glass from them. It's been about 1.5 year since the glass was cut and is still doing fine.
