getting angels feeding

what food do people use to get their angels feeding when in quarantine, esp. the finicky one?

thanks

What kind of Angels? Centropyge or Pomacanthus? Or others, like Regals?
Any way, I always recomend for Dwarf Angels that you use lots of established LR that has lots of algae/diatoms/critters in general in whatever you use for QT. A sterile tank is not a good thing, they need to graze..

Sincerely,
Matthew

Nori sheets rubberbanded to rocks works.
I got my Majestic started on Angel/Butterfly frozen cubes... that was all he would eat for a while. Now he'll eat anything.

soak in garlic seems to help. Don't spend $12 on kent's garlic just buy garlic extract from grocery store, same stuff

try p.e. mysis. rinse them first. only put in a few shrimp at a time. whatever doesn't get eaten in about 5 minutes take it out and discard it, and try again later that day.
works for me...they seem to like the large size of the shrimp.

Thanks guys

Its a venustus...

I tried a few things...
krill soaked in selcon and garlic (wasnt interested)
Nori (not interested)
Caulerpa (tore it off rock, didnt seem to eat)
Flame algae (not interested)
Live rock (he seems to like to graze on) there were a couple of zoas on there he ate
PE mysis (today he ate a few-huraaaayyy)
I bought some hikari angel food i might try tonight
I put some rubble with cryptic sponge on, which it seems to eat

I will try the nori attached to a rock as well, as thats more natural than hanging in a clip

My venustus started eating right away, meaning the time it took me to walk to the frig to get the food after releasing it.

It has been eating; LifeLine's Herbivore mix, Rod's food (( red, green and blue labels )), Prime reef and PE mysis.

The first video in this thread shows mine eating some Prime Reef.

If its a C. (P) Venestus, than what I said was on the money. Get some LR with a lot of hair algae & other life & let him graze on it. Its the way they feed in nature, & will keep it alive until it learns to take prepared foods.

Sincerely,
Matthew

Mine was very finicky at first also. It finally started feeding on Hikari Spirulina
Brine and then switched to Hikari Mysis. It now eats anything including NLS pellets.

For Venustus and all finicky angels I highly recommend putting some established live rocks in the QT for them to graze on throughout the day. Since yours is in a QT it should be eating much faster than one introduced into a DT.h

As for prepared food I mix various frozen in small portions and feed 4x a day and monitor closely to see what they're nipping on. I usually use Angel & Butterfly Diet, Marine Cousine, Emeral Entree and mysis to start. And on the dry side I use Bluezoo's Mix of flakes & pellets and NLS pellets.

Good luck with your new Venustus

here's a vid of my pair eating NLS pellets

thanks to everyone who helped out, the venustus has done extremely well, and became a voracious feeder in quarantine.. I have just introduced him to the main tank, and he seems to enjoy all the live rock as well as still feeding voraciously... havent got him to eat pellets yet, but I mainly feed frozen anyway.. he was not a fan of the hikari angel food at all...

I recently got a Black Velvet Angel (which is a known finicky eater) I got him to fill his belly with black worms like I would never believe. He chows these things down like licorice sticks. He is in QT with Cupramine and is eating very well, you might want to give it a try.

I have a Merediths Angel that goes crazy when I feed, but refuses to take anything in. Right now, he/she goes for caulerpa, sponges, turf algae and loves Oysterfeast and Cyclopeez!!!

GL!
