Getting back in to it (on a smaller scale)

Cancer Sucks
Hey guys, it's been quite a while since I've checked in here. Lots of new names and some familiar ones.

I'm not ready to get the 180 back up and running, but I have a 37 tall that I'm going to set up in the entry way as a softy tank. I need to order some new cartridges for the RO/DI and some odds and ends for the overflow.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi. I'll soon be in the market for some good live rock. :)

Can't wait to see that 180 up and running. Let me know if you need zoanthids. I think I have a couple extra:)

Great, funny was thinking about you Friday, almost PM'd you to see if you were still checking. If you go SPS, I've got plenty of Torts (old ORA blue), ORA Blue Tip and such, and Caps, even Ed's plain brown purple rim.

Hi John!

This 37 I'm setting up would really be best suited for softies instead of SPS. It used to be my QT.

Thanks akwarius. I don't have any immediate plans to start the 180 back up. For now it would just be too much. Here is what it looked like in its prime. :-)

Hello, I’m probably one of the new names you may have noticed. I use to have a 37gal mixed reef. I know lighting was an issue for me, but I eventually went 4x24watt T5. Here is a link

Just thought I’d help by suggesting

Good looking tank. It's a little fancier than what I'm setting up. I don't really feel like drilling it and building an overflow so I'm going to put on a siphon overflow. I have a 10 gallon acrylic tank that fits in the stand for a sump, so I'll just put in some baffles. I do need a skimmer that will fit in there though. I don't think I'll be using the MRC MR3-R from the 180 on the 37.

Since it was my QT for both fish and corals, I do have 2x150w 14k Hamilton halides for it. They're bright enough for softies but wouldn't sustain much for SPS except maybe monties.

Thanks for the complement. I had a CPR overflow on my 37 with no issues. I have a coral life SS 65 if you interested? IMO, I think the MH's would sufice for SPS, but do you the they will cause too much heat?

Is your skimmer still available? If so, how much?

I finally got the thing dragged out of the back room so I can take inventory of what I have and what I need to order. I got my order in, so I should be able to start getting it set up next weekend. I just need to silicone some baffles into the sump and wash some of the old Southdown sand from the 180.

Well I got my shipment of supplies in from Marine Depot and got started. However, after replacing the RO/DI cartridges I discovered that the fitting where it goes on the faucet is badly cracked and sprays water when I turn it on. I'll need to order a new one before I can make water. I can still do some plumbing today to get the overflow and sump set up. Hopefully by next weekend I'll be sending out a call to buy some live rock from one of you. :)

Finally a little progress. I got the new adapter for the RO/DI and it's making water now. I cleaned up some of the old Southdown and got it in the tank. Unfortunately I cracked the bulkhead for the overflow so I won't be plumbing the sump just yet.

I'm not going to like this light fixture. I guess it only has one halide and it's in the center, with LEDs on each side. I'll probably break down and order a T-5 fixture.

Yep, this light definitely won't work. I ordered a 30" T-5 fixture this morning. 2x10k and 2x460nm actinic.
