Getting back into it

After a 10 hiatus, I have come back to the hobby. I had a 125 reef tank for about 4 years. Then when college happened, tank was broken down when I moved out of my parents house.
Time does go by fast, and now that wife, two kids, and house are all done it was time to come back. My wife was actually the driving force in getting me back into it, which I think is the best part.
So now, the fun part.

I am going to be doing a 220g custom acrylic tank. It has no overflow boxes, the standpipes are exposed, but painted black.
I picked this tank up off of Craigslist for a great deal. Nothing wrong with it, just some elbow grease needed.

And I built the stand myself out of 2x6.

I am wanting this tank to be a FOWLR tank. I am wanting to have the large angels tangs and triggers. I did the coral thing, and I always wanted fish that would eat my reef. So this time I am just going to get the fish I want.

Here are some before and after cleaning the tank.

I used 3,000 grit sandpaper.
And buffed with NOVUS.

NOVUS is magical. Completely takes all scratches out of the tank. It is a three step process, I had to do the steps about 3 times to make me happy. I think in the long run it was well worth the work.

After installing the standpipes I hated the look. So, I decided to paint the back of the tank black. So the exposed standpipes would be lost a bit more.
I have also started in my sump. I got an ATB elegance 200 PRO skimmer. Vectra L1 return. I also am planning on a UV sterilizer to run off the return.

Welcome back! Very nice job on the tank! I did a 230g acrylic tank and it is a ton of elbow grease, but well worth the effort ;)

Nice tank! Got it looking like new!

Have you thought about stacking rocks around the standpipes to hide them?
