I want to get back into the swing of saltwater. I have a 100 gallon (18X18X72) tank I want to turn into a reef. But I also want a refugium that is also a displa tank in its own right.
The tank I have is an old glass tank of unknown origin. I have had it 20+ years and it was well used when I got it. I am afraid to drill it. So I am hoping to make a fug that sits right next to it and slightly above. The goal is to pump up to the fug and let it gravity back to the main tank.
Here are my questions. How many GPH am I looking at going into my refugium? I really don't want a big pump in my display tank; if I am only talking 1-3 inches of head can I suck it from the main tank with a pump in the fug? What would be the pros and cons of an external pump?
