Getting new Lion to eat?

Im not panicing yet but I would like to try to get my new Dwarf Lion to start eating. I know how hard it can be. I have had troubles with puffers in the past but usually they get hungry enough to just bite anything and I can shove food in their face until they eat. With this lion, he just gets scared if I try that. I have tried all kinds of foods and he gets interested but has yet to eat anything. Its been a week now.

Any advice?

Ghost shrimp can be used if all else fails. I once had a lion that was very picky. After not eating for approximately 10 days, I had one last idea. I tied some silversides to light monofilament fishing line and let them just drift in the powerhead current for a while. The lion got interested after a bit and gulped them down. Never really had a problem with him after that. Good luck.

Good idea...I will try this.

live food is always a good choice - ghost shrimp or maybe some guppies. it's more important at this point to get it eating. what kind of dwarf lion? fuzzy or zebra? I think zebras are much harder to wean to frozen.

My fuzzy dwarf wouldn't eat anything except live ghost shrimp. I tried everything then had one last idea. I noticed how she likes to prey on the ghost shrimp, waiting for them to come out of hiding, then snapping them up. So I put a frozen krill in the tip of a stick and sort of hid it behind the rocks, and slowly just made it look like it was poking its head out. BAM! She immediately snapped it up.

Its a Fuzzy Dwarf. I will try all these things and see what I can get him to eat. I want to stay away from live food a little longer if I can. I may have to give him live soon though.

He FINALLY ate a few silversides this morning. I simply turned off the powerheads and dropped them in. He would swim up interested and then I turned the powerheads back on so the silversides started moving and he would quickly lunge at them. I hope he gets used to eating off the feeding stick though because this will not work once hes in the display tank...another good reason to QT fish. Its easier to get new fish to eat!
