i am filling my 90g as we speak.i was up till 2am making RO water and filling.i got about 60g in the tank and right now i have 30g in the sump mixing with salt.it will be full today and the loop running.

shes full of water and all pumps are up and running.im going to put some of my gravel bed into a mesh sock to help with the cycling of the tank.i might even add a piece of my live rock.

that overflow is a stock AGA overflow.the older tanks had corner style now they are offset mid placed.i do like it better where its at compared to the corner style.the bottom loop outlets are great,im actually amazed the sandbed itsnt moving around with the flow im running.
 
Let's see some more plumbing pics. I'd love to see the pumps, how they attach and where, etc. I'm new to closed loops, but the idea is long overdue. Looks sweet!
 
ok here is the back of the tank.the big line is the closed loop pump inlet,the 4 small white lines and the 2 clear lines are the closed loop returns.

here are the pumps,the small one on the left feeds the tank and draws from the sump.the big one feeds the closed loop through a 6 way valve.

You know you're addicted to reefcentral, when you post video of your tank and you can see they have the reefcentral page up in the background! :lol: Awesome closed loop btw, after doing a little more research and asking around, im scared of running an external with out prefilters.

Definitely cover that closed loop inlet with something, so you dont send a fish or snail into the pump.
 
actually a well informed friend of mine, made a good point, that external pumps are designed to pump water that had already been filtered through sometype of filterfloss or filter sock and even additional filtration, possibly. So when you dont have prefilters filtering out larger particles of debris ect ect ect, they get sucked up and blended by the impellar, which logically would cause wear and tear on the motors resulting and breakage or leaky external pumps. But of course, theres always ways to do it so the pump doesnt work as hard or a brand that could possibly take the abuse (if i can call it that).

oh and BTW checkinhawk, the last pic looks uber lol. Awesome freakin build you got their.
 
That is so cool! I'm away from the computer for one day and everything is finished - LOL. That is some awesome flow, beats having 4 or 5 pumps in your tank - hey?
 
the pump inlet will get a strainer on it.i dont have one yet and since its free of life right now im not worried about running it open.yeah reefartist i was up late making water to fill it,i didnt get to fill my sump till this morning.i really like the lack of powerheads and great flow.i plan on hiding the 2 lower back outlets up with the rockwork.im going to try and hide the front inlets by glueing liverock rubble to the nozzles.and my sump isnt flowing some crazy high water flow through it.i think im getting about 450gph out of the return pump.i would say the loop is putting out at least 2400gph from the 3 outlets.
 
Man right now I have 4 pumps in my 75. John in Oldsmar was telling me that he was thinking about becoming a distributor for Ocean Motion products. That would be great to have someone local with all the parts and units available. I have some time before really needing the fix so I'm going to wait and see if he gets them in. I know I'll need to do something with my 75g flow but for right now the powerheads seem to be doing a OK job. What's nice is that I can move it to a bigger system later - that is real nice.

My glass work is coming along but I do have a few questions that I need to investigate before going on. I have some pics and I'll send you the link.
 
you know if you want some cheap flow,you can get those new hydor flow pumps.they are similar to the nanostreams for about half the price.ive seen a few reviews on them on RC and they were all good reviews.http://www.hydor.it/index_en.htm

I just got one - LOL. It's been on for about 5 days now and is working great. I'd heard pros and cons so just purchased one to see how it would do. I have a feeling that if you don't clean them they break. I took it apart and it's all plastic gears inside. I think if I at least cleaned it once a month or every two months it would hold up. Thanks for the information. How's the tank holding - any leaks?
 
yeah ive seen a few reviews,all good so far.someone even modded one with a mj mod prop and said it had even more flow than stock.
