I recently had someone tell me you shouldn't run GFO or other phosphate media on a tank with tridacnid clams. Is there any truth to that? I haven't heard that one before.
it's fine but there is a clam disease that can be aggravated if Fe is allowed to leach into the water. if your clam is not a carrier then no problem, if he is then you need to run the effluent through carbon before allowing it back into the tank.
it a protozoa infestation referred to as pinched mantle ( PM ), here is thread where i treated one of my clams that was showing signs of it. there are lots of pics and an explanation of the disease in the 4th or 5th post.
