GFO & Carbon

Is this something that I shouldn't be running 24 - 7 in a Zoa dominated tank? I read flyyguys tank build and got the impression that for better zoa growth, you shouldn't be doing this, and I am.

i have been running carbon and GFO 24/7 for a very long time and it never caused me any problem. i do on the other hand can see were it could have an impact on a zoa dominated tank. zoas/palys do prefer a more nutrient rich system and may grow a bit quicker in such a system. but i would prefer not to have the possible algea problems that come with it.

if you change your husbandry of said tank, you could have both and im sure many people out there have. when i first started really getting into zoas and only had a softy tank i had a more nutrient rich system until i decided to have a mixed reef.

I run purigen and chemically pure elite 247 in my nano but I don't have a skimmer and my zoas and palys r fine. Sometimes they go through periods where i loose polyps but they grow right back

I will be running both 24/7 in the new setup. Always did in my 90 as well with no ill effects. Had real good growth.

I run rowaphos and seachem matrix carbon and have not noticed any detrimental effects on my zoas and palys
