Gfo help

So on Thurday I tested my water for phosphates and it registered at .16 via Red Sea kit. I added a reactor with a half cup of gfo for my 65g tank. Last night Saturday it tested at .04 and again at .04 today Sunday. Do you guys think my gfo maybe exhausted already from absorbing all that phosphate? And since it's down at .04 how much gfo should I put on the next batch less or more to bring it down to at least .03 and maintaining it there? I should i add that my tank is a mixed reef but majority is sps.

Nothing wrong with .04ppm. You dropped your phosphates relatively fast so I'd wait to change out your gfo. You don't want to shock your system. GFO is potent stuff and I never could get the hang of it. I've been able to keep Phosphates in check with Chaeto and tons of live rock and not overfeeding. My skimmer is also rated at least 2x the size of my system.

I'm a big believer in feeding heavy and heavy nutrient export.

I found out today that my Red Sea test kit was off. Took the water to an lfs and it tested .013 via Hanna checker. So I was feeding once a day, going to have to up my feedings to hopefully get it to even out.

and thats the exact problem I ran into. High phosphates and I'd run some gfo. Next day no phosphates and upset coral. I could never get the swings to stop.
