GFO question

Blurry, Sometimes, using too much gfo can cause PO4 depletion to occur very quickly. This may cause some stress on some corals(particularly sps) and other organisms as they adjust their uptake mechanisms. Excessive use may also drop alkalinity a bit . Some calcium carbonate precipitation may be enhanced. Enhanced water clarity accompanying the nutrient removal may increase light levels too quickly as well. I'd go with 1 gram per gallon . Measure reslults and amp up slowly from there.

Neoz, No I have not done studies but others have and/or are undertaking them now. They are noted in the thread I referenced. From what I can tell it looks like it can be used as much as 10x. Since the surface is renewed I would suspect it would last just as long as fresh gfo ,maybe a bit less depending on how effective the bath was.

BTW, the HC( high capacity gfo) is pellet like in size. It tolerates the acid bath quite well and is a high level absorbent gfo. Don't know wether pellets or granules would dissolve more in either the acid bath( vinegar) or base bath( sodium chloride)
