GFO Reactor

I setup my first GFO reactor this morning. I'm using a Phosban 150, which is probably a little small for my 300 gallon system, but everything I have read says take it slow. I have just a slight tumble on the top.

Anything else I should know or watch out for?

My phosphates are at .43 now.

It's pretty well set it and forget it in my experience. Get it to a slow tumble and let it do its' thing.

Test every three days watching your level drop. Once you even out or go up again, then replace it.

Would you exect to go through the first round rather quickly since the level was so high, and then when I reload the next batch would last much longer?

Yes, unless your rock/sand are heavily laden with nutrients from excessive food/detritus. If that is the case, like in my large system, you could change it out every week or two forever:)

I tested again last weekend and it was still .18 so I decided to replace the GFO. I was assuming it must be nearly deprecated since it was staying the same. Just tested and down to .09.
