GFO without Tumble

Hi all. I'm looking for a GFO that I don't have to tumble. I like the cost of the bulk BRS GFO, but it clogs too quickly in my crappy little reactor. The same reactor works well for GAC. Anybody have suggestions? Thanks.

Yea, I think they all will clump together if it doesn't tumble. The only way I see getting around it would be to mix carbon & Gfo together & the carbon would keep the gfo from clumping together. That's not a ideal way to run it eighther though because u have to change them at the same time. It wouldn't work to well on large tanks eighther because u could only fit so much media.

I was having the same problem with the BRS single reactor. I would get a nice rolling tumble, but by the third day it would be clumped. I was considering changing out the pump that came with it but was told that the Mj1200 was plenty strong enough for that reactor. I tried mixing GAC with the GFO, but I feel I was throwing out the GFO before it's time because the GAC was depleted and the GFO wasn't. I read some good and bad things about Phosguard, but made the switch anyway because that doesn't need to be tumbled in a reactor. I have been using Phosguard for about 7-8 months now with no ill effects on my tank so I'm sticking with that.

I've been using Phosguard for about a year now too without any problems. I only have a 20 gallon tank, but running it passively in a mesh bag seems to do the trick. Just make sure to rinse it thoroughly before you use it though.
