Gfo

So... I messed up and left my GFO going for a little too long and now I have what looks like rust in my sump :(

How do I fix this.. I really don't want a crash.. im running carbon separate but what else can I do?

I don't think that will happen. GFO is iron, but it's not really poisonous like copper---just maybe more than you want. If there's a red film area, you might take a turkey baster or siphon hose and just suck it out. Then do a 20% water change every 2 days, total of 3 changes. With ro/di water, natch.

Suck it out the same thing happened to me. Actually I had the flow in the reactor set a bit to high so the GFO was tumbling more than it should have been and hence dust everywhere.

Since most sumps are under your tank it's difficult to use the gravity siphon effect. Some use a shop wet/ dry vac but I found it filled the reservoir up too quickly. My solution was a battery operated siphon that collects the debris in a filter bag.

Worked perfectly! I would not worry about a crash as the GFO was already present it just looks nasty.
