GHL 2.1 Doser - cannot configure slave unit

Anyone else successfully get a slave doser added to your 2.1?
I have tried following the directions, there isn't much to it - and I continuously get a communication error when I try to submit changing the doser pump ID's.
One response from GHL suggested a lower version of the GCC software but it doesn't work either.
Now it seems the USB port on the primary is also not functioning.
I've tried with 2 different PC's.
Both of my units are new.. one 6 months old the slave a few weeks old.
I thought I was buying high quality stuff here but the software is so flaky it has me questioning.

Anyone here have these issues and know of any tips?

The guys at GHL were sending me recommendations but all along it seems my USB cable was not working..
I don't know why because it works with a printer, but I changed it out and immediately could connect to the com port.
I was not able to use the newer GCC version, but instead an older 1.8 version that GHL guys sent me.

All configured and working as expected now.
