I got my mantis tank setup just dont have the mantis. IN the mean time I'm trying to find out as much info as possible. Can I feed a mantis mainly ghost shrimp? I can get about 100+ ghost shrimp a week for free.:smokin:

We feed ghost shrimp occasionally, but given that they are freshwater, I would occasionally supplement the diet with marine crustaceans such as krill, grass shrimp, or even frozen whole shrimp. For smaller species of stomatopods such as N. wennerae, I also like to add an occasional squrt of adult brine shrimp. It gives the animals something to do as they run down the Artemia.

my ghost shrimp are saltwater. they last for months in a full salt setup. I live near a big salt water bay. I regularly catch sea robins, gobbies, peperment shrimp, and of course ghost shrimp.

I was under the impression that ghost shrimp are actually brackish and are capable of living in both SW and FW.

How can we tell the difference between a SW and FW ghost shrimp?

Their is no Difference in a FW or Salt water ghost/grass/glass shrimp. But if you plan to Be keeping them in SW you have to Accumulate them for 2-3 weeks. They are just like Mollies and guppies in the way they can be FW or SW fish.

Ghost shrimp can be acclimated to salt water in about 2 days, you dont need three weeks. Hell if you getting a 100 for free you can just drop the lot in salt water and you are bound to get at least 30% of them survie the change. when i had seahorese i fed them ghost shrimp and it just took 2 days to switch thme to salt water. I adjusted the salinity like every 8 hours. they are pretty tough.

I take mine from the bucket i had them in when i caught them then stick them straight into my tank. last two time 0 died. I just throw some flakes ing the tank to feed them and then my fish feed on them. I have acutal had some spawn recently. i saw the larva for a few days but now its all gone. mine actual come from saltwater.
