Giesemann 400W SE 14.5K Megachrome Coral

I have seen them over a tank, however it was only on an "HQI" ballast with the 400. The bulb appeared extremely bright and white to the naked eye. I did notice a very small amount of yellow, but that was most likely attributed to a little bit of discoloration in the water, as well as running on this particular ballast. If you run the lamp on a pulse start or electronic ballast, and have very clean, non discolored water, then the bulb will appear very crisp white with no yellow.

Thanks,
Jeremy

With both of them side by side I think the Giesemann is going to be just a little more white than what the XM would be. Having said that, I think you should definitely expect much better coloration in your corals, specifically sps, with the Giesemann over the XM.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Jeremy, I notice you carry Geisseman 12.5K SE lamps and 14.5K SE lamps. Would you share any comments you have about the two? You know I have a PFO HQI ballast so if the 14.5K on that ballast run "white" are the 12.k that much more "yellow"? What is the PAR like compared to the other German standards (Ushio, AB etc.)

The 12.5k lamps are very similar aesthetically to 10k Ushio's. The 14.5k lamp is a very nice lamp. I have not seen any numbers on it yet though. It is a true 14.5k, meaning there is really no blue to the naked eye, but no yellow tint either. I would highly recommend this lamp for people supplementing with a little bit of vho, pc or t5 actinic and want the best of both worlds as far as coloration and growth goes.

Jeremy, thank you. I am currently running two Aquaconnects on my 125 and love the color. I don't think I've ever had a lamp with better overall coloration. But I'm just not getting good growth and am not happy with the color of red/blue corals. Initially the color of my sps looked great under the AC's but after 5 months or so of burn time the corals just don't seem to be thriving anymore. As you know, I used to run AB 13k lamps consistently and was very pleased with growth. But the color of the AC lamps is so much better. How does the Geissman 14.5K compare in terms of output intensity to the AC 14k lamps? I assume the Geissman will be more "white" than the AC lamp correct?
