Gigas clam blowing out white cloud. What is up with that anybody knows.:eek2:

Your clam is spawning and that is a bad thing. You need to do as big of a water change as possible, and if you have carbon you need to run it and run it hard.

When clams spawn it is a sign of stress

What are your paramaters?

What fish and inverts do you have?

I disagree that it is a sign of stress. I have heard of peoples clams breeding and being perfectly healthy. You can make them spawn by stressing them out, but not required. Keep an eye on things and keep emptying out your skimmer as the cup will probably fill up quickly. Running carbon is not a bad thing. I agree and I would check all your paramaters to ensure nothing is the cause of it. Temperature is a big one that can cause them to spawn.

usually clams spawning in the home aquarium is a survival instinct and a sign of stress. there are cases where normal healthy mature clams will spawn for other reasons but the outcome can be the same. all those gametes floating around the tank will eventually die and pollute the water as well as deplete all the O2.

do a water change and keep your skimmer running 100%, running carbon is also a very good idea to help with water quality.

any changes recently, accidental or otherwise???

how big is the clam?? and how big is your tank??
