GIRS forum users, how long have you been in the hobby?

I was looking at the calendar today and realized how fast time has flown by this year. In a couple of weeks, we'll be starting the 4th quarter of the fiscal year!

I also noticed that it'll be 4 years for me in this hobby come December. That led me to the question, how long have you been in the hobby? I have noticed a lot of new names in the forum lately but didn't know how long you've been in it.

Anyway it'll be 4 years in December and I'm going on my 5th tank! How about you?

I started in 1997 so its been 10 years for me

I did have about 1.5 years where I didnt have a tank set up because we moved from Indiana to Iowa and I wanted to wait to finish the basement of our new house.

In December it will be a year. I have keep a few tanks sence then.
My first was a 14g Bio Cube:

Then I went to a 20g.

Then a 40 breeder.

Now I'm setting up my 125 FOWLR tank. Sorry no pics yet.

Freshwater since I was like 5, and salt water tanks for 5

Freshwater for about 25 years, saltwater about 10 and reef about 8. Although my reef set with just fish, LR and softies for about 7 of those years. I only became a reefer at the beginning of 2007.

Freshwater since birth, four years off in college, then the reef bug got me 3 years ago.

I've had fish since i can remember, i think one of my first ones was a goldfish i won at a fair, you know the game make the ping-pong ball into the glass and win a fish. We always had wal-mart style community tanks when i was growing up. When i was a teen-ager i had oscars and things like that, then i got into african cichlids, then tanganyikans, and then about 3-4 years ago i took the plunge into saltwater, now i am just a reef junkie.

Thanks for posting guys. It's surprising to find out how long people have been in the hobby. I feel like an old timer but it hasn't even been 4 years yet! :lol:

SW since 1975. Freshwater for several years before and after that. It was really hard to come by much good information before the web though.

Freshwater on and off since I was... ~5? Started with one of those plastic bubble gum machine tanks, wish I still had it. Went to salt in October of 2002, so nearly 5 years. It's been a rocky road, funny to think of all the things I did completely wrong for so long (yet seemed to work.)

This is my 3rd tank, have a nano sitting and waiting and a freshwater planted that's full of water and awaiting plants.

1 year on, 2 off and now been going strong for 3 more years. I started with a 30, moved to a 60 and most recently got my 210 up courtesy of slovan , and a lot of help from vid151. :dance:
