Glass, acrylic or polycarbonate?

Since a cover is needed to keep fish from jumping out of the aquarium, are there any light transmission issues with the stated materials?

Personally I'd use polycarb or glass, leaning towards polycarb. Acrylic is clearer but will warp out on ya. Polycarb is good, virtually unbreakable, be careful not to scratch it - scratches easier than acrylic and a little more expensive than glass. Glass is fine IMO but you have to be too careful how you handle it.

I didn't want to use a sheet of glass or acrylic for the covering because of heat issues. Someone in the DIY forum used a sort of netting that seems to work pretty well; it keeps the fishes in, doesn't block too much light, and allows evaporation.

ditch any kind of "full" cover. It keeps heat in, and doesnt help in evaporative cooling. Also having an open top helps in oxygen exchange.

if your dead set about having something for jumping fish, use eggcrate.
