glass divider

I have a 29 gallon glass tank. I am going to use it as a sump/ refuge. I want to add a glass divider. What is the best way to seal it? I want each section to be water tight.

I guess alternatively (to nipping the corners) you could glom so much silicon under the divider that it's sealed but above the original seal?

If you're going to do it, then do it properly; you'll sleep better at night without worrying that you might come down to a soggy carpet.

Does glass "notch" that easy? Sounds like I am putting pressure on it until it snaps off? I thought about the glom method as my last resort.

I've never done it so I can't say with any authority, but I would think that as long as you support the glass, you should be fine.

I have run a small bead along the baffle to be inserted, then put the baffle in place the baffle in place wiped up the extra silicon and I was done. No nipping required and no leaks. hth

Glass can crack because of the heat. If you use a dremel cool it with water. When I drill holes in glass pieces I alway put the piece under water - no cracking of the glass. I'm a glass artist and do this all the time - have had my share of failures. Good luck!

Why not get the glass cut so that it is 3/16" more narrow than the width of the tank. It should then sit in between the silicon at the bottom. Then just use a good bead on the sides wich should each have a little more than 1/16" to fill.

That is what I did with my sump and it worked perfectly with no snipping required.

Use a file. Or nip it with pliers. The best tool would be ceramic tile nibs. It would be best to clamp the glass down if possible so that only the part that needs to be nipped will show.

The better fit the longer it will last. Do it right.
