glass dividers for sump

Just picked up my 75 gallon tank from aquarium adventure today and want to know the best way to get the diveders for sectioning off the sump. Should I go to a glass store, or should I try to score and snap myself? Do local hardware stores cut glass ? I never tried it before so I need advice.

Thanks,

Wes

I would use glass instead of acrylic (if it is a glass sump) because silicone does not stick to acrylic very well at all. If you go to Ace Hardware they will cut the glass for you. I am about to do the exact same thing. If your sump is acrylic then you want to use acrylic dividers and bond them with Weld On #16 or higher. Weld on can be purchased very cheaply from Streamwood Plastics. Just stick with the same material for the dividers that the sump is made out of, that's the key.

Any local glass shop will be happy to cut baffles to your specification for relatively cheap. Use 3/16" Glass and tell 'em to slightly polish the edges so you don't cut your fingers off.

I'll never buy another Versa-top as long as I am in the hobby. I think the last one I had cut for a 75 cost about $4.00 for 2x 24" Pieces. Same for the sump baffles for a 29.....

Yahutch, the 75 gallon was...but it was on speciall for the opening of the store. I was on a mission for that tank and generally would probably not shop their again for anything else.
