Glass or Acrylic?

Doesn't acrylic require more care? As in polishing to remove the micro scratches, etc. It doesn't stay clear like glass does.

I'd only use acrylic for really large aquariums [8ft long], sumps, QT or breeding tanks.

You have piqued my interest. How is this done? All my tanks are glass except for a 10g use for mysis trip. If I could buff out the inside scuff marks, I would be able to see their pouches much better.

With a 180, glass would be ok but when it does scratch and it WILL you are staring at that scratch for the rest of the tanks life. Every glass tank i have seen has scratches in it. If scratches bother you in acrylic they can be fixed without even having to drain the tank.

I've had both and greatly prefer the glass. With acrylic cleaning the tank is a PITA because you have to use things that won't scratch the acrylic and they just don't work as well IMPE. Also, with the acrylis I always manage to get a rock in the cleaning pad or scratch the side up with a rock or other equipment eventually. Yes, you can get a kit a and buff them out but that is not simple or easy to do and if you do it wrong the tank looks even worse then when it started.

When you compare the two.. Acrylic wins almost every time. The only negative you hear about acrylic is IT SCRATCHES EASY... this is true, BUT if you are careful and have the right cleaning tools, it wont be a problem. Even if you do scratch it, it can be fixed with that kit on this thread. I have had both, and now I have a acrylic, and will never go back to glass...

Thanks for the link! I'll have my maintenance customer who has three large acrylic tanks that are badly scratched (before I took over) to order it. I'll use the buffer over several visits on each tank. Can't wait to try it!
