Glass or plexi thickness??

So I am pricing out glass and plexi for my 42x48x30 tank and all i can say is wow. It's ALOT!! So I was leaning towards plexi since I am building it myself, or thought I was. But at these prices I might have someone build it for me.

So my questions are: What thickness of glass or plexi? For glass I was thinking 3/4" and plexi I was thinking 3/4 on the sides with 1/2" on the bottom and for 5 or 6" euro brace. What do you guys think?

Next question: if I have someone make a tank, who do you recomened? TIA Tim

This question would be better asked in the Vendor Experience Forum. This forum is for non-vendor discussion. Thanks!

Hi Tim,
Your numbers seem perfectly reasonable. You *could* go with 1" material for the sides and top and get the eurobrace down to about 4" rather than the 6" using 3/4" but it will cost more.

I can't be of much help with glass, sorry.

I can live with 4-6 eurobrace. By staying with 3/4 it will really help keep cost down.

James you work in the plastics industry any good public plastic suppliers? TIA

Oh and I did ask for manufacture names in the vendor fourm....but I dont think I will get much there. It does not seem like a busy fourm. But I'll try. Please feel free to PM me with info if you dont want to leave it here. TIA Tim

Hmm, plastics suppliers. My fav (Port Plastics) is only in the western states but a few others I have used are all over; Laird Plastics, GE Polymershapes are examples. Where are you located? Might be able to point you in a better direction if I knew that :)

I guess that mIght help. I am in southern wisconsin. 1 1/2 hours west of milwaukee and 2 1/2 hours north of chicago. So I could drive to pick it up if saves on shipping. Thanks Again Tim

Both Laird and GE both have branches in the Milwaukee and Chicago areas
Laird has a facility in Madison, WI & one in Bensenville, IL
GEPolymershapes has one in Menomonee Falls, WI, and one in Naperville, IL

There may be others in these areas as well, check your yellow pages under "Plastics, distributors, sheet, rod, film" or something to this effect. Look in the larger cities such as Milwaukee and Chicago, I betcha find others too :)

HTH,
James
