hi all,
got a quick question. what a good place to get a tank drill( back wall/side wall). i hace called around to many place there cheap and pricey place, but i want to see where does everyone here think about it.?

let another question, i have an over flow and sump settup. if i have two hole drill(1") will that be eoungh to replace my overflox box? and have two holes 1" for a return lines? or i should stick to the overflow box.

let me know what you guys/girls think about this?

thanks for you imput...kase:confused: :mixed:

I drilled 4 1" holes in the back of my 75Gal, 2 for a Calfo type overflow and 2 for return. It seems to work well - return is a mag 9.5.

I'd like to expand this thread a little and ask if anyone has recomendations for local sources of float glass as well I'm thinking of building a custom display and would like to get some pieces cut for a good price.

i have an idea, start traveling a little and use your tank as the show how to drill tank, and you can get it done for free...the may 6th fragswap mo is doing this as a presentation i beleive...he does it everytime we go to a huge expo

There's a trick using a dremel tool you can find on RC... let the search engine be your friend.
I've used a glass shop in the Genesse Market on Jefferson, but forget the name of the guy (some Irish "Mc" name...). He made up some splash guards for me for a few bucks. I wouldn't expect him to know spec's on glass to make a tank, but if you gave sizes and dimensions, I'm sure he could turn the pieces out.

If you are coming we can have a spot where we can show how to drill a tank. I used to pay about $40 dollars a hole and then I decided to learn how to drill a tank. I bought the tools and drilled about 500 holes in one year and made good $ too. I also can challange and put a hole in temper glass but don't recommend it and will have that in reefnest DIY page someday soon. :) Please let us know if you are coming so we can add this to our program.

zoogi,
yes i am planning to be there may 6th. in pa. i have the map, time and now collect the people to go with me. i got about four now, so hopefully i can have more. some newbi and oldies. but i would like to get more newbi into the reefing madness :).

but yeah i would love to learn how to drill tanks. not for the money, just to know so i can help others, and most importly my self :)

Then we will have a place where we will be drilling a tank. We will see if I can drill few different ways.
