Glass top and T5?

Hey all, I moved my pico into a 5.5 gallon tank and am getting the current usa nova extreme 2x 18watt T5 Fixture for it. It comes with mounting legs, but I have a juvie six line wrasse (growout for larger tank) in it and have a glass top to prevent jumping. With the glass top block too much light? Like I said I would be using the mounting legs with the glass top under it. Oxygen is not an issue as I have lots of surface agictation. Is it ok to use it with the glass top?

Cool, thanks. So it wont block out light? Will it still be enough light for some softies and lps. It is a 5.5 gallon. The fixture has 1 18 watt 12 000k bulb and 1 18watt actinic. It has 36 watts combined and is t5 HO. Thanks

The only corals I have currently are Star polyps, various Zoas, yellow polyps, and a tiny frag of sinularia. Would these corals do better with the new light? They currently have a PC 18watt on them from the old tanks. Would it shock them too much? Like I said the new one is 2x 18watt t5ho 1x 12000k 1x actinic.

bump. Please help. The light is here today. But I have jumpers and coral. I dont want to waste the light. But I dont want the fish to jump. Will enough light get through the glass?

I think you will be OK. If you are concerned, raise the light fixture up temporarily somehow and slowly lower it down over a period of days-weeks and things should acclimate. Many people have softies under t5 and they do fine. It's more about not quickly shocking them. Of course, this is my humble opinion.

A couple other options.... eggcrate or window screen. Allows airflow and only blocks a little light. Won't cover with salt creep like glass.

I have glass on my 10 gallon tank, granted I am using 4 x 18watt T5's but does not seem to be blocking it at all. I do clean it with water once a week though. Even with the condensation it does not seem to block anything. I did remove the rubber strip in the middle though so it is just glass all the way. My guess is it should not be an issue (I am not expert though, only been doing this a month or so now.)
