Glass under a halide?

Can I put a glass top under a 175 MH bulb? Its pretty thick glass I had cut at the local glass store but not tempered. My freinds little black nemo from her 29 jumped last night to his untimely death out the back opening of the canopy :( How do they always seem to jump in "just the right direction"? I am surprised it was The clown concidering the other fish are a bar gobie and a fairy wrass! The canopy is 10" tall so the bulb would be agout 8" off the glass I would say. Will the heat just break it? Any other suggestions? I thought about trying to rig up some kind of side wall to deflect jumpers along the back because I have read they can seem to squeeze right through egg crate or just get stuck on top off it and not make it back to the water.

The glass won't break. I have glass panes suspended under my 250's to protect the bulbs from splashes. The problem could be with the tank not getting enough air to cool it off and a rise in tank temp. You might be able to use egg crate since it's only a 175 but I'm not sure if it will melt or not.

Yes I was worried about the rise in tank temp with such a small tank. I have a small fan in there and not had to turn it on yet so the fastest and hopefully the easiest will be to put the glass on and maybe the fan will be enouph to keep the heat down. try and see I guess :) Thanks for the glass info Chris!
