I have an acrylic sump that doesn't have a bubble trap. I was thinking I could get a piece of acrylic cut to size and glue it in to make a bubble trap.
Could I just use super glue gel to glue the piece in place? I'm trying to do this without breaking down the sump
You are going to drain the sump right?
If so yes super glue should work but its not going to look nice...
A proper solvent (weldon/scigrip 4 or 16 if needing thicker/gap filling) is much better..
Yes I was going to drain it. But was planning on doing this quickly. Like only a few hours down time. Not too worried about looks plus under a 93 cube there's not much room to work or see anything.
I am no fish expert but with chemicals and other crap pretty good at.
Super glue, use the gap filling stuff and give it at least 24 hours to cure. Not because it needs it but because it will allow it to disperse any excess chemicals.
Silicone give at least 24 hours or longer.
Any solvent aka gluing plastic together I would give 24 - 48 hours depending on the solvent chosen.
This is not because of the strength of glue but rather chemicals seeping into the water
As stated waiting the recommended "cure" time (or more) is the smartest move..
But
In general super glue (Cyanoacrylate) is safe for use immediately in a tank.. Many including myself use it for gluing frags to plugs and do it while wet and put it right in the tank not even dry yet.. But I certainly would use super glue here..
Using acrylic solvent the parts won't reach a decent bond for about 24 hours or so and you don't want that brand new baffle to pop off due to the water pressure pushing the pieces apart.. Waiting one day isn't going to cause any problems.. and not waiting may..
