Gluing coral

Do I have to take my rock out of the tank to glue a frag to it?


Or, it there some type of glue I can use underwater?

Taking it out works the best. I use Loctite Super Glue Gel to glue most of my frags. What exactly are you wanting to glue?

I have a small Torch Coral and a small Frogspawn. I did get "Handibond Gel" from F&S, it says to dry both pieces to be glued together .

You should probably use some reef-safe epoxy then. I bought Aquamend from Home Depot. Works great. Superglue isn't going to do much for those corals. I always pat dry the area I want to glue. Keep the heads wet, but dry the base and the rock you want to attach it to.

Oooh, thanks, didn't know that about the superglue. I do have epoxy left over from doing rockwork, I'll use that.

i take epoxy, mix it, find a spot in the tank i want the coral, alld the epoxy, imprint the coral onto the epoxy, take out the coral, add super glue gel, dip in water, add super glue gel, dip in water, add gel, place the coral on the "mold" or impression you made in the epoxy, hold for 25 seconds....BOOM

Cool. You need a little more 'girth' out of the glue to hold these corals to the rockwork, imo, so epoxy works well. Superglue is great for monti caps and such. Just put a little on the base of the frag and stick it where you want it.

You lost me after "Take epoxy, mix it" .

Can you re-phrase that procedure for the simple minded(ME)

Not my post, but epoxy is a 2 part putty. They need to be kneaded together to start the curing process.

i mix the epoxt
put it in the tank where i want my coral to be (to make a flat surface for the coral)
take the coral and make an impression onto the epoxy (make an impression of the bottom of the coral or the part you want to be the base.)
take the coral out of water (epoxy mold still attached to LR in the H2o)
add super glue gel to the base of coral
dip in tank (to create a "skin" on the glue so you can add more glue in the expact same spot)
add glue
dip
add glue
i repete this untill i get a nice amount of glue (more for bigger coral, less for smaller)
then take the coral and place it in the tank
press it against the "mold" or impression you have make with the epoxy.
hold for 25 seconds
