Gluing SPS Frags At Angles

Wen gluing frags to rock work, not every place to glue a frag is horizontal. This one crom time to time needs to glue frags to the side of rock work. I assume if I take an acro and glue it pointing sideways on the side of my rock work, it will grow towards the light. Correct? Also, many corals have different growth patterns. Are there some that will not grow right if not top mounted on a horizontal piece of rock?

the corals will naturally grow toward the light so their vertical horizontal posititon wont affect that as long as they are getting sufficient lighting. what you will get a lot of times w/ a frag mounted "flat" or on an angle instead of tip up is mulitple growth spurs faster versus waiting for the tip to branch.

With any frags that I have glued vertical th growth rate on them was amazing. They did take some time to form a base but once finished they all just took off after that. Now I try to glue them at an angle more often.

Has anyone actually done studies to verify this? Ive heard a few times in the past that placing coral frags sideways will make them grow faster. I always point them straight up to get the most light exposure...hmm...

i wouldnt call it a study but the growth in my digi pieces that i glued randomly vs straight up are making me a believer. definitely seems more like to branch faster to me and have multiple growth spurs. maybe i'm just getting luck though! :)
