Someone recently gave my son a beatiful goby ( do not know what kind) he is black with a pretty yellow pattern. He is about 6 inches. He has a hiding cave under the rocks but he moves mouthfulls of sand every night, and my sand is very fine so in the morning the tank is cloudy and sandy, and all over the rocks and corals!! Is it possible to get a different type sand or is this a lost cause.. Mt son just loves this goby.

are you talking about that 8in engineer goby? he would mess up any ones sand, dont tell me your thinking on changing sand for that fish, are you sure your power head didnt fall down over night? i would love to have a loin fish in my tank, but i would up root every body elese in the tank, you shoud come over & see mine now that i have my MH lights,

8in engineer goby + 29G tank = messed up sand and cloudy tank live with it, get rid of the goby or give him his own tank to play in I wouldnt mess with changing sand.

lion fish -- You realize they are venomous? As in trip to the hospital if you get careless scraping algae off the glass.

You do realize this goby will get alot bigger. I say trade him in for a much smaller goby that looks just as good and will actually benefit your tank instead of tearing it up. Teena you are kiddin about the lion fish right?

Ok Ok Thats what I thought just needed a little nudge to convince myself to tell my son about evicting his fish. It was neat watching him move mouth loads of sand. I'm learning.

My 2 - 2 1/2" Diamond Goby is about at the threshold of what I can stand in my 55 gallon. I can't imagine one that big in a 29 g.

Sure like how clean the sand stays, but could do without the craters and having to dust off the corals all the time.

glitzyone your son can still have a awesome looking goby that will sift sand and help keep your tank clean but will be on a much smaller level to go along with your tank. I have a 75gal and I still would not want an engineer goby. They get huge. Take him to some of the local fish stores and look at your choices and you and your son together can pick one out. Any fish store will probably take in your engineer or make a post on this site and someone will probably take him off your hands.

doris im not kidding about the loin fish, i would get one but he may not get along with the two 6in engineer gobys in my 75g, im not have any probs yet, ive had them sence they were babys,
