Goby - jumped to his death

I found my diamond goby on the floor this morning. Is this fish a common jumper? Are there other gobies that will be a nice addition to my tank and not be inclined to jump out?

Most gobies will jump when startled. Soryy about yours. I just lost my Lineatus Wrasse Supermale the same way.

I lost a Yellow Watchman goby from jumping. I had him for several years. Sorry to hear about yours.

You might want to invest in some Egg-Crate for any other potential jumpers.

Diamond gobies are notorious jumpers. The LFS that I managed always got them, and I would do my best to secure the tops to the tanks and plug any holes, but, they would still find some way to get out.

Not only that, I would find them halfway across the store sometimes!

I had been looking for some time for a not-particularly-jump-prone (with the understanding that any fish could possibly jump)bottom-dwelling type fish with some personality, and I recently picked up a couple red scooter dragonets (Synchiropus stellatus). I am told that they are rarely jumpers (hopefully that's right). Pretty cool little fish so far. If you have plenty of pods and after your tank has been established for awhile, you might consider them.

I had a Diamond Goby with an awesome personality for a while. Very social and always out in the open in the DT, ate like a pig. When I had an ich outbreak and I QT'd all of the fish, he somehow jumped out even though I had the tank covered with eggcrate. He must have been stressed in the barren environment and in tight quarters with the other fish.

I miss the guy as he was very fun to have in the tank and kept my sandbed well-groomed. It sucks because he was such a good eater and I've had a terrible time trying to find another one at the LFS.

I had a diamond goby for over a year. Great fish. Transferred the set-up from a standard 120 to a 120RR and 2 weeks later the diamond goby jumped out. Bummer.
