goby or wrasse?

i was just wondering. which goby i should get? i want one that buries into the sand. they dont kill off all the bugs though do they?
are they safe? i have a feather duster a small anemone 11 hermits 2 snails 1 false percula and 1 true percula in my 55 gallon with a 4 inch dsb and live rock. how would they do?

i read about a yellow wrasse that buries in the sand to and is cool looking which would be better?

any suggestions or reccomendations? would they both be safe? or would one be bad for my tank? thanks alot
 
Is your tank completely covered?
Many wrasses are prone to jumping, and without having the entire top of the tank protected from jumpers I would avoid a wrasse.
 
I believe the wrasse you are talking about is the yellow "coris" wrasse. This wrasse will go through your system and eat every pod it can find. They are typically reef safe, but do like to jump.

There are many shrimp gobies to choose from, but I do not believe any of them bury into the sand without a pistol shrimp.

Why not just get both? Do you have any other plans beyond the two clownfish that you would like to add?
 
yes the top is covered.

me and my brother are setting this tank up together and were thinking about only getting one more fish for now and try to breed the clowns that way we can take them to our lfs and get some equipment upgrades.

so we are wanting one more fish for now and we need something to kee the sand stirred up. all we have that mess with the sand are a few hermits and they only get the top.

were looking for a fish that wont be able to get a hold of the fry when we have them and can do a little job on the sand at the same time. but we also have to like how it looks so im trying to find out about some before i go buy one. but my last chance for awhile to get to the lfs is either today or tomorrow. so this is kinda quick research you might say.

off subject but if i would take a 10 gallon barebottom tank and put a piece of live rock out of my 55 gallon with water from my 55g would there be a cyce in it?

also i read that if you have a cleaner shrimp in your tank the clowns wont breed. it saaid that was reported. anyone know about that?
 
A wrasse is not going to do much in terms of stiring thesand, yes many do bury in it, but is isn't going to make much difference in keeping it clean.

If you are needing it stired, I would look into some nassarius snails.
 
yea i thought about that but ive already got a couple snails and im wanting another fish and im really just wanting the sand stirred it dont necessarily have to clean it just keep it stirred
 
Well, look at a goby, such as a Orange spotted Diamond , or a dragon, those are about the only ones that will do a good job of stirring it.
 
i just thought id let ya know what i got.

i went and read up on the gobies a little more and went to the lfs.
i found me a sweet looking bar goby.

hes made himself right at home in my tank and hes loving it. he acts so happy.

i also got my powerhead today so everythings much happier.

has anyone had a bar goby? what do you think about them? or how did yours act?

Diamond gobie all they do is move sand. Wrasse fish? Well
three of the letters in their name are right. If you want a fish
to sift alot of sand this is the one. However diamond gobies
need to eat 2 or 3 times a day bits of shrimp ect. to do well.
Check out Marine Depot live. They have alot of info. on
care and feeding of fish and corals. dbr
 
I bought a Diamond gobi and it did a great job of stirring up the sand, but it started attacking my false percula, which ended up dying.
 
tough choices theres always a good and bad about every fish. ill just stick with my bar goby for now. i dont wanna put to much to quick.
