goby/pistol question

hey guys we were going to get a watchman goby to pair him up with a tiger pistol or something....i have read a bit on it and saw some have different ways of trying to pair them up....any thoughts and is a tiger pistol best for the yellow watchman goby?

I have my YWG paired with a Tiger. I've read they're the easiest to pair up, however for pistols the tigers get larger. It took my guys less than 24hrs. to find one another and they've been inseparable since. Really entertaining to watch as well.

thats why my wife liked it so much....saw a vid on yourube and well...i'll be getting a YWG frieday from emerald bay lol....i'd get them both in at the same time but i'd used copper a few months back in the QT i am using and i rather not risk putting a shrimp in there

I wouldn't think you'd need to QT the shrimp anyway - why not get them the same day and just go ahead and put him in your display?

I think you pair your fish and shrimp by size - making sure that the shrimp isn't going to get a lot larger than the fish (or the fish might get accidentially hurt by the shrimp, who has really bad eyesight).

We're getting a Randalls Pistol shrimp to go with our Wheelers Goby. Here is a link to the pistol/snapping shrimp species (this is a good site for research/info or identification of inverts, fish, etc.):

ummm jennie putting whatever in ya tank with out QTing them is a huge no no.....i know some get away with not doing that but ya rish that fish having something on it and then its in ya display....i never bought the fact that some say hey this fish had ich and when it was put in my display a little while later it left...once ich gets in....it is in ya display gor good unless you take all the fish out and go fishless for 4 - 6 weeks to kill the life cycle....so yes some get away with doing it but in that tank at some point sooner or later it well strike.....but yes i dont need to QT the shrimp but i had wanted to buy them at the same time and throw them into QT together just because they need to have that relationship....when i do get the shrimp for him i'll make sure he is smaller then the goby though......that is a good point ya made bout the shrimp being bigger then him though

I wasn't suggesting that you not QT the fish. LOL I was just saying I didn't think the shrimp needed to be QT'd.

BTW, in my opinion, unless you use your QT tank for a full 4 week period for each new fish, you aren't really quarantining them. Marine ICH and velvet for instance, have a three to four week cycle. QTing for a few days and then putting them in your display isn't a "true" QT period, as it might take a week or more for any symptoms to become apparant.

And I don't quarantine. Maybe its a major "no-no", but my tank already has ich (as previously disclosed when I sold my Hippo Tang). Since that outbreak three months ago and the Herbtana treatment + fortified food, there has been no additional sign of it. My personal experience w/ QT is that it is stressful for the fish to be in a sterile environment with fluctuating water parameters (I found it very difficult keeping a 10 gallon stable) - and I'd have to buy a 50 - 75 gallon complete setup just to remove all my fish to let my 90 run fallow for 6 weeks - and thats not gonna happen! But thats my choice - be it right or wrong in someone else's eyes.

lol i thought ya ment to not QT stuff lol i got ya now and i dont just keep the fish in for a few days thats a waste i'd say...and as far as what ya said bout all the fish ya have is true...the more fish ya have the harder it is to do a fishless treatment.....if ever though ya wanted or needed to do that though im sure between some of us here we could house ya fish for ya...... just a thought
