goby/pistol shrimp combo

I have a orange spotted shrimp goby paired with some type of little pistol shrimp (I was told it was a randall's shrimp goby, but that has to be wrong... I'll have to get pictures and post). I think they are really cool and was thinking about getting another pair (probably a randall's shrimp goby and a randall's pistol shrimp). Do you think it would be okay to put these all together in a 92? Right now it's empty, so I would be able to introduce them all at the same time if that would help the odds of peaceful coexistence.

I would think that in a tank that size, you'd be fine. Those are little guys and IME, they seem to stick with their shrimp. EvilMel is the resident goby junkie. She may be able to help out;).

I have a at least 10 pistol shrimps in my tank. They all came in on LR as hitchhikers. They are a brownish green color and some have grown to about 3". When i was curing the rock I would hear and see clusters of tiny pistols 5-6 to a hole.
I also have 3 gobies, a yellow watchman, an orage spot and a yellow rose antennae.
None have truly paired. They gobies all have their homes but the pistols don't seem to stay with one fish in particular. They all get along, the shrimps share holes but the gobies don't, so as long as they both have a home I wouldn't think it'd be a problem.

I have a Randall's Gobie paired with a Tiger Pistol... :) They're best of buds...

I also have a Yasha paired with a Randall's Pistol... I'll try and get some pics today or tomorrow posted... :D

Yasha Hase's are hard to photograph... Jenn's have been happy for a while. She has some sort of Alpheus, but not sure which.

I just got a yasha goby and pistol shrimp at AC today. I am not sure what kind of shrimp it is, it looks a lot lighter colored than the ones pictured above. So far they are digging a hole and I see sand flying out of it occasionally so I know they are okay. Only saw them for about 5 minutes after I put them in.

I'll have to get a pic of mine to post...shouldn't be hard they are always out. I'd like to get an ID on the shrimp. I've honestly never seen one like him on any of the sites I've been to.

Well my goby was out this morning in the front of the tank but I haven't seen it since. He was acting pretty comfortable at the time so I thought I would probably be okay. I hope he turns up soon. The shrimp is still in his borrow.

Be patient....... I put a Yasha and a Randal's shrimp in my 29 a few weeks ago and they hid for the first few days and I didn't see the shrimp at all. I still don't see the shrimp much but enough to know he's there and the Yasha has his head sticking out all the time. It took them about a week to get comfortable:)

Nice pair Randy:D

I finally found him in the overflow. :) He doesn't seem to be the sharpest fish. He swam right back up to the edge of the overflow when I put him back in. I netted him and put him in a small rubbermaid container and released him next to the shrimp's hole. It sat there for a while and then the shrimp snapped at it and it went around the back of the rock. I haven't seen it come back out yet. What bothers me is that I have read they only pair up with randal's shrimp and mine definately isn't one. They weren't sold as a pair but they were obviously paired up at the Critter when I got them. I wish I had my little tank set up that I won at the swap but I haven't gotten around the that yet. It would be perfect for a shrimp and goby pair.

Well I guess no amount of patience will get him out of the overflow:rolleyes:

My Christmas wrasse just jumped in mine:p

Glad you found him. I actually read after getting mine that introducing them down a piece of PVC similar to what you did is a good idea.

I turned out the lights and just checked on them and the goby was sitting at the entrance to the burrow so I guess everything is okay. If he keeps getting into the overflow I am going to try and set up the small tank for them. I can get the goby pretty easily out of the overflow but catching the shrimp could pose a problem. Hopefully I won't have to worry about that though.

Oh, btw, I guess you have gathered I put sand back in the tank. I plan on keeping it clean so I don't have the problems I had before. If I have to vacuum it out every once and a while and replace it I will. The tank is finally doing well again and the corals are actually growing.

The goby was doing fine yesterday morning and then about an hour later he was dead. I am not sure what happened. I think I am going to get another whenever I set up my little tank.
