Goby spawning, how to breed them?

I have a paired Priolepis nocturna. Tonight the 4th batch of spawn just went free swimming after 10 days.

Q:
Is there a proper way to breed them?
What're the necessary equipment and food for the spawn?

My tank dimension is 3.5' x 1' x 2.5'. IOS and only a Red Sea Prizm as my skimmer currently.

well, if your fourth batch went swimming, I'd say you've got hte breeding part down, it's getting the little buggers to live long enough to sell.

I think with most gobies, they'll lay eggs in a small tube that you can remove to hatch in a separate tank.

I have a pair of G. oceanops and am having a hard time getting any past day 20.

Good luck with them.

hmmm sounds like you need to start culturing rotifers. I don't think many people have spawned these fish before. I'd seperate the babies from the rents and start feeding them rotifer cultures... not sure on how to do this because I've never done it but I'm sure someone will chime in

Thanks

Anyway, I notice another batch of eggs on the LR last night. This should be the 5th batch already. Damn myself for not know how to keep them alive.

Neokn,
After reading all the articles on breeding gobies (there wasn't that many) it looks like the only phyto used to enrich the rotifers was T-iso.

Bro,

Don't curse yourself....In the TFH article, U of Florida Aquaculture people couldn't really do it....and they were feeding ciliates as first food!:eek2:

Thanks for all the help I get here.

Breeding session over. Last batch of spawn went free swimming on Monday. No more eggs noticed under the LR. Guess what, neither did I manage to rear any of them nor scoop them into another breeder tank.:mad2:

This is maddness. My gobies just have another batch of eggs. An expert here knows the frequency of the spawning?

Sorry, as my dc is unable to take picture of the eggs that's under the LR.

go towww.advancedaquarist.com. look in the breeders net back issues.
There are goby breeding articles there from both Martin Moe, and the group from the goby research station (the www.gobidaie link you have). i think it explains what they both fed the fry

Neokn,
Hi there, drop a PM to Lisa P. She has tried to raise Gobys. I cannot remember the site shge posted stuff on but I do not believe that it is on RC.

Good luck and I wil be interested in how this goes for you.

I've got the magazine with this fish in it and I have read the article, in my opinion the larva don't look that small. They look about the same size or larger than the Cryptocentus cinctus larva we raise. We use S strain rotifers, that'll probably be what you need for them.

Good luck with them and keep us updated.

Amy

Hmm...S strain might work? Neokn, if you need S strain, let me know - I have a good culture going and will have to harvest it out soon. It would be much easier if they take S strain!

Thanks to all that reply to my thread.

Aside to marinebetta,

Thanks for the offer. Have been following you thread in SRC on Amphiprion percula. Currently, there's another problem. What's the best method to remove the spawns from the main tank as the adults are still in the main tank. Will Pm you in SRC to discuss more.

It's being 6 months since the last batch of eggs hatched. Tonight, I saw the 1st batch of spawns swimming in the main tank again.

I have tried removing the spawns from the main tank but none manage to survive after 3 days.

I'm contending to DIY a 0.5" pvc tube with green netting for the spawns to enter. Firstly, this can prevent them from being eaten by the bigger fish. Secondly, they'll be less likely to be sweep away by the tunze current.

Any comment and recomendation is welcome.

Neokn,

where do yours spawn? Mine do always dig out all the coral sand under a rock and seem the lay their eggs in their. Although I clearly see that see has eggs, I could never see the eggs in the cave.

Peter,

I get regular spawns weekly and my pair is set up with an artificial clay cave in the tank with my spawning true percs. They will generally spawn in a corner of the cave, back and roof, and have adhesive eggs like clowns....just that they are tiny! Hatch in 4 days into tiny slivers of larvae which I have so far been unable to raise past day 6 :(
