Goin' fishin!

I have had an arc-eyed hawk for 2 years now and I have finally become sick and tired of him ruling the tank and driving my clown, damsel and dottyback into seclusion. He will eat anything large enough for his mouth so I am thinking of buying some fishhooks and line and hooking him then trading him in at the shop. I need to know what size hook to use for this size fish that would work and any other tips from others who have used this method.

I havnt heard of anyone actually doing this. People joke around about it but do not actuall catch their fish with a hook. You tank is not large so why not try a nother method.

Try another way first. Is the hawk in your 29 or in a bigger tank? If it is in the 29, move some rock if you have to, and net or trap it.

If you decide you can't trap or catch, use the smallest hook possible and file off the barbs. If you ever go catch and release fishing (or know someone who does) you'll have an idea of what will work. I forget if it's Fenner's book, or Scott Michael's, but I've read accounts that Harlequin tuskfish are captured for the aquarium trade with baited, barbless hooks.

I took out a SGT MJR damsel with a hook before,It was very easy and he did fine after wards until a grouper ate him in his new home.That fish was the meanist SOB I have had,though I now have a blue stripeclown that attacks me every time I stick my hand in my reef tank.

you can get really little hooks......i use them to catch bait when i go fishing

I would make a trap and put a mirror in it first, see if that works. Use the hook as a last resort.
