Well I've decided to take the plunge, if anyone would like to come over and watch, help, or laugh and point fingers while I throw out my lovely sand bed and replace it with this beautiful peice of plastic I just bought feel free to. If anyone is interested in buying the sand bed let me know cause you can have if pretty cheap.

thanks Jason

Jason, that sounds fun, i was thinking about going BB with my 24 gallon, i just decided it was too much work.

If you're going to go bare bottom, watch out for

I started to go BB in my nano, after having a 2" sandbed...then I got a clam, and it looks so much better on a bit of black sand than on bare acrylic. Right now some of the tank is BB, and some has about an inch of black sand. Looks a lot better and my phosphates are way down :)

edit: \/\/\/ Also a good point. I removed the sand in my tank over the period of about a week to avoid crashes / throwing a lot of crud into the water column

Do you have a DSB or SSB? If you have a very DSB I would look out for your tank crashing when you disturb the sand... To reduce tank crash I would pull out a little bit of sand every couple of days.

Just my opinion

If I wasn't heading out of town on Sat. I would run over and give you a hand. Are you using cutting board for the bottom? Where did you get it at?

I like to go BB on Saturdays too... I don't think anyone would want to come over and watch though... :p

I'd love to come see how it goes if I wasn't going to see Anthony Calfo. Be sure to post before and after pics.

Good Luck,
Marcus

I'd be interested in the sand, how much do you have and what do you want for it? My boyfriend will probably be coming through Independence Sat. and Sunday, more than likely, so he (or me) could pick it up. Let me know.

I like to keep my bottom covered, sorry, couldn't resist :D

well its a mix of sugar sand and puka shells....theres about a 3 31/2" deep bed in my 75 right now and its all going.....the bed is about 4 years old but it has been flushed many times including about 3 months ago when it was flushed about 8 times when i drilled my 75....it is loaded with slugs snails and everything else you could think of......i like it and wish i could keep it but it's just not going to work out for corals i would like to keep......just shoot me an offer and we'll talk thanks jason
