Something I did that works great is huge filter socks 8" diameter and about 36" long. They dont clog up to fast and 8" is easy to turn inside out. Then I use a 55 gallon plastic barrel so its nice and tall. Then that dumps into a sump with skimmer.

I do not use filter socks. I have a large skimmer, ozone injected in a second large skimmer, sulfur reactors, biopellet reactor, kalk stirrer and dosers. I don't do water changes.
My only ongoing problem is reoccurring cyano. I run Chemiclean for that twice a year.

Nice. Im fortunate I can pump water up from the beach into storage tanks.
