************UPDATE*************
I think I've beat the "slime!" I did a major water change last weekend (4c sea water and 4c water from my nano) and I'm not seeing the "bloom" I was seeing after cleaning it up every weekend. Usually, the red stuff would come in within a day or two with a vengeance! This time, there are traces of it, but it seems as though it is on the decline. I think between the alternative water change and the conchs I'm winning the battle.
Once this is over with, I need to get hold of some good color softies to stick in there. All I have right now is the red shroom and the xenia. I tried some green zoas, but I don't think they liked the slime much...they never really opened up.
It's such a relief to have a pico that's not all red and slimy...yeah!
Here's a couple of pics from today:
Full tank shot with light...which I'm still loving by the way!
Closeup of one mod I did on the Aqua Clear filter...I used the filter frame from one of my nano filters (from a Penguin 150) to keep the chaeto and other items from falling back into the tank.
I just cut the filter medium and charcoal out of the plastic frame and it fit perfectly inside the Aqua Clear's filter area where the return to the tank is.
One of my wonderful conchs purchased from Eco Reef...with my Xenia...
And this is my other conch...not sure what kind, but he half buries himself in the sand with one eye peeking out...kind of funny. But I did see him helping in the cleanup effort...
Does anyone know what kind of conch he is?
Well, that's the update for now. Hopefully, the next will be the new corals! We'll see what I come up with at the frag swap.
Until next time!
