Going on vacation-any tank advice?

Leaving for Disney next month for 7 days. My son-in-law will come over to feed the fish. My plan is to have a small plastic bag of food for each day so all he needs to do is dump it in. I'm going to take pics of the basement sump indicating what he needs to watch for.

I'd like to be able to give him a phone number in case of any problems. I live near the Erie County Home and if anyone near me is willing to take a ride over if something goes wrong, I would REALLY appreciate it. If you are, send me a pm. He'll only call in case of fish emergency and of course I'd reimburse you for any expense. Please...

I'm going to do a water change 2 days before I leave. Anything else? I'm really nervous about leaving my fish. :worried:

if you lived closer I'd volunteer in a heartbeat.

Does your son-in-law (must be a nice guy!) have any experience with aquariums?

Disney is FANTASTIC!

Nobody should have to worry about their aquarium while they're down there!

when you going to disney? Ill be there feb 17-26 i worried about the same thing my sister not the most reliable. im going to try and find 2 auto fish feeder and put spectrum pellets in 1 and flakes in the other. and hopfully my sister feeds them there froozen everyday

He's not familiar with fish. Plus I have 3 freshwater tanks, 2 of which have baby guppies that should be fed at least twice a day. Maybe I could also ask my neighbor to pop over after work.

I usually feed frozen food every other day, will they be okay with just the Spectrum pellets for 7 days - one feeding only?

I'm trying very hard not to worry about this. Dog will be in a doggy day care kennel for $25 a day (yikes) so she should have fun. We're taking our 2 daughters, one son-in-law and 4 granddaughters. Other son-in-law can't go, that's why he'll be the fish feeder.

I sincerely think so.

Best bet will be to "overfeed". Keep fishes fat. Corals can deal with DOC's after you get home. Who knows... maybe the aquarium will look fantastic after you return. I've seen it happen!

Thank you all - Brian at this point you are the closest - although still about 1/2 hour away. But I'll give my son-in-law your number 'just in case'.

Thanks Brian

I went on a trip for 12 days late last fall, and was equally worried. What I did, was purchase an auto feeder. Began using it about 3 weeks before the trip,(just to see how it was going to work out). I also put tops on my tank to slow down the evaporation, (except where the auto feeder was). Turned my skimmer to a somewhat dry skim. Fed my Corals a few days before I left and did a water change the day before. When I go home, thank goodness all was well.
