Going Radion on the 400!

Going Led and I said I never would:) Radion Gen 4 Pro x10 and I have been impressed with the colors that these lights bring out in SPS in comparison to my T5 Led Hybrid setup.

After 6 months with both my Frag Tank connected to my 400 and my Quarantine on Radions and the coral doing great I have found the time to build and wire my light rack. The rack will be mounted above my Peninsula on Island Drawer Slides that allow the light to be pushed 24" either way to get full access to the top of the tank with nothing hanging from the ceiling.

The 10 Radions are mounted on Ecotech Slide Rails that are angled in 5 degrees. I built a tray that holds all the ballasts above the light and they are powered by a 10 outlet power strip. 1 cord for all the lights that will be controlled by EcoSmart Live. At 100% this would be 1900 watts and almost 16 amps, but they will be very low to the water on the Coral Lab SPS AB plus Setting at less than 50%. I went with more lights because they sit 9" off the water and I wanted to limit shadowing effect. I will try to get some before and after pictures when I get the light installed in the next few days.

How do you make the pictures smaller when hosting on Imgur? Sorry and in the background is my first attempt with my son to set up a freshwater planted tank. We Added a DE filter in this am to clear up some cloudy water.

On the top right under the green "add images" button, there are two menu's "Add to Album" and "Auto Resize" -- Pick your size on the auto resize tab. 800x600 is fine usually.

Here are your images loaded on imgur resized at 800x600

I like 1024X768 but 800X600 is great too.

That’s a lot of lights. I don’t forsee needing to upgrade until.... well never.

Yeah, 800x600 is on the small side but imgur makes things look grainy so I keep it small. Not sure what kind of compression they do to their photos but photobucket doesn't do that. Flicker has the cleanest HD pictures I think.

BUT... One day the G5 is gonna come out, and he'll need 10 new lights :D

Great job on the wiring. What are they all plugged into and are those the plugs that come with the radions or did you splice in new ones?

I just replaced my T5/reefbright combo on my frag tank with Radions and love the crisp light. So far (a month) the corals are looking better than ever.

Have you decided the settings you are going to use to start?

Almost didn't see this hidden between the 2 giant pictures.

I bet you'll be able to run at a lot lower than 50%

Really really good, what is your measurements between pucks? I found with a par meter 12" to be too close for good spread with G3pro 30. If possible Id try 16", running diffusers AB+ 55 wats 12" off water. G4 15 way to go for spread!

Woah, I didn't see it either and I downloaded the pictures for him LOL!

I think when Ben went full radion from Halides and T5's he said he started around 20%, maybe 15%? Something low.. My sps were burning up at 40% when I first put my radion up, had to dial it back to 25% and ramp 10% every 4 weeks on Ben's advice, or they'd start to suffer..

No light source is truly right, or wrong, but damn if LED's don't penetrate water like a champ.

Hey I hear you're going all LED soon Mark

Having just switched from T5 to Radion G4 myself, before I got the diffuser I was sitting at 13.5" off the water and my SPS were getting cooked above 30% -- After acclimating them they could handle 45% at the same height. After getting the diffuser i'm down to 9" off the water and at 60%.

The diffuser spreads light so well that at 14" quite a bit of light would be escaping the tank. Even at 9" I feel like a canopy would benefit light reflection.

Anywho, it looks great Scott! Love the meticulous wiring!! Once at your house Greg and I were looking at your sump room and he said "Pretty amazing huh? I'm an equipment guy. This is a great setup" -- I gotta say I share that sentiment. Something as silly as clean wiring makes me nerd out.

Your frag tank and QT were stellar -- Can't wait to see how the DT develops for you Scott.

This is great! I was in awe with your Cable management!
