Going to drill my tank. Help appreciated!

Hey gang. I just acquired this 150 gallon from a forum member and finally began to work on it today.

I had originally planned on doing a coast to coast overflow, however, I'm going to go a different route.

I plan to use the two corner bulkheads as returns with lock line. And plan for a middle overflow with three bulkheads which will fit a bean animal system.

I have all new bulkheads and valves in the mail and plan on cleaning this tank and stand up real nicely.

Two questions:

1 - given i need to drill two holes besides the middle bulkhead how far should i drill each one from the middle bulkhead to be safe and prevent chipping or cracking?

2 - any recommendations on an overflow that will suit my needs? Dimensions or company info appreciated. I recognize I'll likely have to have it custom made.

Thanks in advance! View attachment 360491

Just a thought but have you considered doing and external overflow? That is one regret I have with my tank and I am even considering patching the holes in the bottom and drilling the top with it filled with water and making an external overflow box. Then I wouldn't lose tank space for my over flow box.

As far as space between holes your drilling goes, the general rule I was told holes in proximity should be 2X diameter apart on center.

I have considered an external overflow but I want an internal for its skimming abilities.

If I remember the advice I was given correctly, any hole should be at least (minimum) as far from any other hole (edge to edge) as the diameter of the largest hole.
