I purchased a lovely gold bar maroon in Early December of 2010. Sadly, my lfs only had this one GBM so I could not pair it at that time. Currently, she is about 2.5 in and about a month ago we added a large rbt anemone due to her constant attempts at hosting a bubble coral. Last Sunday my LFS had two GBM clowns and I purchased the smaller one that was only about an inch long. We acclimated the small clown in the bag near her and her anemone. She did not show any signs of aggression. After the acclimation was done we released the small clown in the front of the tank away from our established clown and her territory. Now you should now our tank is a 240g cube reef display in progress so it took our new small clown a few hours to happen upon our large clown in the anemone. When the smaller clown saw the anemone he immediatly swam into it and unfortunately or fortunately our large clown was in it and had its back turned. The baby clown rammed the large clown and a fight issued. Interestingly enough just as it started it was over. The small clown took no damage but our large one's fins look rough. She had stopped attacking him but will chase him if he leaves his designated area.
The next day
Seems are small clown fish has moved he is now somewhat in the middle of the tank closer to the anemone. The large female again will not attack him even when feeding. He will not go in to her territory and shows signs of submissive behavior like kissing her fins and that weird jerky swimming move they do. His fins are still perfect and he is still not showing any signs of abuse.
Today (Day three)
He has no moved about 6 inches from her and her anemone. He makes no attempt to touch either one however. The large female is not showing any aggression and the small clown is still showing submissive signs. Hopefully by tomorrow he will be inside the anemone and they will be on their way to becoming a pair.
