gold strip marroon clowns

I am starting a tank that will revolve around some GSM clowns. The tank will be atleast 50 gallons, I say atleast because I havent decided on a tank size yet only a shape.

Now for the questions:

What nem do these clowns tend to host best? I have kept, haddonis, LTAs and BTAs, had much better success with the haddoni and LTA then the BTAs, weird I know.

In your opinion/experience what type of fish get along best with the GSMs? I would like a wrasse of some sort, probably in the flasher family.

Will the GSMs have a fit if a goby/pistol shrimp setup shop beside their nem?

I would love to see pics of any GSMs in nems and tanks.

Thanks
Jon

Natural host is BTA but in my experience a GSM will host just about anything. Very aggressive fish. Make sure your anemone is at least 2 x the size of the GSMs and if at all possible let it acclimate in the tank a couple weeks before you introduce the GSMs. They are rough. Mine are being hosted by an LTA.

As far as the pistol/goby combo. I have a YWG and Tiger pair in my 65 and they get along fine. The goby and pistol will move away from the anemone in short order after the GSMs get after them.

I have a sixline in my 65 and they get along fine but I dont know about any other wrasses. Be careful with a wrase and a pistol in the same tank.

Personally, I wouldn't dream of trying to keep a goby/pistol pair with a Haddoni (( and to a lesser extent an LTA )). With the Haddoni staying on/in the sandbed I would suspect the goby or shrimp would be eaten in short order.

I would stick with an BTA, it is a natural host, and prefers the rocks, so would be away from the goby/shrimp.

In a tank like you describe, I'd go with multiple BTA's. This keeps the clowns from being to rough on any one anemone. It would also be more natural.

I would go with the largest tank you can. IMHO, Maroon clowns get a bad rap for being aggressive, often simply because they are housed in tanks that are to small.

Cant speak for a Haddoni but as far as my LTA goes, it pretty much stays put in its own spot on the opposite side of the tank from my goby/pistol cave and my GSMs arent going to let the goby or shrimp anywhere near their anemone.

ha..that so funny...when I had mine they were much smaller and still were little devils on my corals. That and constant peel outs on the sand.

Ok so I have been thinking I might go with several BTAs. The problem is I would still like to keep several shrimp (including a pistol) aswell as a sand sifter to pair with the pistol. Will all the nems irritate the other fish in such a small area?

Part of the reason I wanted so many shrimp was for the movement factor but if I have several nems that takes care of that so its not a deal breaker.

Are there any pics of tanks around the 45-60 gallon mark that have mainly BTAs in them? would I still be ok skimmerless with multiple BTAs?

I agree I need to see a pic of a 8-9 inch maroon! I saw one approaching that size at a local wholesaler one time but it was dead. It was unreal to see one that size though!
