Gold/yellow stripe clown

Hi,

I got a yellow stripe clown almost a year and 3 months ago. He was just a little smaller than an inch when I first got him. I also got a maroon clown at the same time but this one was not a yellow stripe. He was just slightly bigger than the yellow.

The maroon grew to about a bit over 2" while the yellow is just at 1" and is not growing at all. They do not fight but I've seen them do the harlem shake quite often lol The yellow stripe clown had yellow and you can see a faint yellow on him when he goes into a dark area of the tank but generally it looks white. I just saw a few yellow stripe clowns this weekend and they were the same size as him but those stripes were bright yellow.

Is there something that I can do to enhance the color of the stripe or will it come in time?

Also, if I remove the larger maroon and get another yellow, will it have to be smaller than the yellow I already have? I heard that once they turn into female they do not turn back?

Thanks for the feedback in advance!

The white stripe is probably the female and the other one is the male, that is probably why he hasn't grown. If you want a bigger yellow, I wouldn't remove the other one until the bigger yellow one was ready to join the tank, then I would do the swap. There is no guarantee that your yellows will get along. Maroons are notorious for rejecting mates, if I were you, the two you have seemed to have hit it off, and I would leave well enough alone.

Thanks ernieq, I just wanted to know if the yellow stripe would actually color up and if the reason the clown was not getting bigger was due to it being a male. Do males, generally stay at about 1"?
