Golden Brown?

When I started keeping coral, there was no "Gold" coral. We had mostly brown coral, some of which may have had a neat goldish look, but it was still cheaper than the rarer and more expensive mostly green coral. While I haven't seen any in person, I see Euphyllia listed as "Gold", "Ultra Gold" etc, mostly listed as being from Australia, and it is selling for big bucks online while I have a ton of green frogspawn that I can't get rid for anything more than free.

Is this new $100+ "Gold" coral substantially different from the $10 "sort-of-goldish Brown" coral? Or have people's tastes changed? Is this really from Australia?

I have a couple " gold " hammers and they are noticably gold. Almost metallic Id say. Lighting has lots of play in coral coloration too. With all these new LEDs and T5s you can pull some real wicked colors out of corals.

Neon green frogspawn still is in demand around my leck of the woods (about $10 a head). Now the solid neon green frogspawns carry a higher price ( around $25-30 head)

WIn my area we are saturated with brown with green tips frogspawn though, nobody wants that. Depends on your market and what people are intersted in.

I remember the green/ red meteorshower cyphastrea was super hot a couple years ago. Now we have a LFS with it covering their frag racks - literally. cant seem to even give that stuff away.

I got an Aussie golden torch at the LFS and it is golden orange in color. Not anything close to brown. It is really a bright coral color that you seldom see in the hobby. It's 1 branching head that is almost finished splitting in two. I paid 80$ for it which was a great deal in my eyes.

I hear ya.
Back in 08 I couldn't find a purple tip frog. Now All I see is purple tips.
...Back to the orange & gold.
I have came across a few of the ( Gold ) torches. I have 3 different Flavors of this Gold.
I have also came across a few ( gold ) Hammers. Although ..1 looks more of a bronze, and one is more peach colored.& the other is pinkish. The true Orange I was gonna buy from a local vendor ( $300 ) was a nice piece till he had a vandle poison his system. I have yet to see these ( ULTRA Orange Hammers ) . If I do..I'm sure I would own one.
I can't say I can trust online websites with the wysiwyg. I've been bit 2 times now on that.
