Golden Dwarf Moray Eel Hunger Strike

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice in regards to my golden dwarf moray eel. I've had eels in the past and I know they will go on a hunger strike for about 3 months and then one day start eating again. So I wasn't too concerned when my GDM stopped eating, however it's coming up on 6 months now that he won't eat. I've tried to feed him everything I can think of and he shows no interest. All he does is sit in his cave. I've noticed his colours are slowly changing to more of a darker splotchy yellow. Is this normal for GDM to do this?

Thanks in advance!

Whatever happened with this? I was following just out of curiosity. I do know that I had a snowflake that would sometimes not eat for a month or so but always came back to eating. 6 months seems like a long time.

He unfortunately ended up dying a few days after I started this thread. I had a Goldentail Moray in the past that would do the hunger strikes as well but no longer then 3 months max and he always would start eating again. Who knows what the cause was.

The problems that I have noticed with Eels and Lionfish is that people tend to feed them the wrong foods or even the right food in too large pieces. When I was learning I found that they will eat whatever you give them even if it is too big and they get constipated of sorts and then they go on hunger strikes. When I started feeding them smaller pieces the hunger strikes went away. If you do it again, feed smaller pieces.
