Golden Dwarf Moray Eel in a reef

Mine has been in my tank or 5 years.
I can't have any sand sifting gobies or Jawfish in the tank. He gets along with a Randalls.
I have 3 clams and two fire shimp in there too.
He lets the shrimp clean him and the inside of his mouth!
I even have some small fish in there.
I do keep him well feed on a squid or octopus (I soak it in vitachem and selcon).
He does have personality.

Do you have a better pic of it's eye, more in profile?

Here it is:

Been in since last wed (3/5/08). It's doing good, has eaten several times, and hasn't bothered any livestock.

Whoops typo. Should be Les instead of Wes. Sorry.

criccio, sorry these eels reclusive personality make them extremely hard to photograph.

Neptune777 posted a good picture on page 1. I guess you could say vertical line, but I'm not quite sure what you mean.

They have very blue color.

I just wanted to confirm it's a G. melatremus and not a G. miliaris, that's all. Can't tell for certain from your pic.

I think it is pretty clear from the pic that its a G. melatremus. I can tell that there is a line through that eels eye. Also they r bright blue . G. miliaris don't have blue eyes.

Are these nocternal? What is the daily activity like? What do you feed and how often? Would it take normal food like mysis, brine, pellets, ect. Sorry for all the questions, I plan on picking one up.

I see mine during the day...he will come out of his den if there is fresh clam out....but doesn't really normally come out much...just his head and some of his upper body will stick out....I don't think that pellets, mysis etc are going to work...mine eats larger pieces of fresh seafood target fed as they aren't speedy! I feed 2-4 times per week and vary the fresh seafood that I offer....he will get an extra meal if I offer my CBB a fresh clam, the eel will come out to eat a bit of it.....

Mine is very active during the day, even when he isn't hungry and I see him often. He didn't eat for the first couple of weeks that I had him, but now eats pieces of scallop, clam, squid, shrimp and whole krill. He eats every two days or so. I have not seem him have any interest in pellets of any kind.

Had one for about a year til I broke my tank down. Very cool to have added a ton of personality to the tank, very active even in the day time. Would definitely cover the tank because they can escape very easily. Cover the overflows to. I had shrimp in my reef with the eel (blood and cleaner) and had no problems with him going after them. They actually would clean his mouth from time to time. They were introduced prior to the eel being in there though. Ive read if the shrimp are introduced before the eel he will not try and eat them but vice-verse. Only problem I had with mine was that from time to time he would try and go after a fish. He chased my male Percula right out of the tank one day :( (wasnt very happy about that!) He also never bothered any coral or clams I kept, he actually made his den right next to one of my Deresas.
